Why Choose a Local Insurance Broker Over a Call Centre?

Updated: 19 minutes ago
Insurance is one of those things you hope you won't need to use very often.
But when you do need it - whether that's because of a claim, a change to your business or simply a question about your cover, being able to speak to someone who actually knows you can make a big difference.
It's one of the main reasons I started Flintwise.

You shouldn't have to explain your business every time you call
When I take on a client, I want to understand their business properly.
What do you do? Where do you work? Who do you employ? What could realistically go wrong? And what matters to you if it does?
That means when you contact me six months later, you're not starting again with a stranger.
You deal with me.
For many of my local clients in Eastbourne and across East Sussex, I'll also happily visit their premises. Sometimes seeing how a business actually operates tells me far more than an online form ever could.
Insurance doesn't always fit neatly into tick boxes
One of the problems with arranging commercial insurance online or through a call centre is that businesses aren't always straightforward.
A tradesman might undertake several different types of work. A landlord's property might suddenly become unoccupied. A business might buy another vehicle, take on employees or start offering a new service.
Those changes can matter to your insurance.
Having someone you can email or call and simply say “Shakira, we've started doing this - does it affect anything?” makes dealing with those changes much easier.
Then there's the claim
For me, this is where having a broker really matters.
When something goes wrong, the last thing most business owners want is to spend hours trying to work out who they need to speak to or repeatedly explain what's happened.
I've helped clients through everything from vehicle accidents to significant commercial property and business interruption claims.
I can't promise what decision an insurer will make, but I can be there to help my client understand what's happening, communicate with the relevant people and navigate the process.
Local doesn't mean limited
Being a local independent insurance broker doesn't mean I'm restricted to businesses around the corner.
Flintwise is based in Eastbourne, East Sussex, but I arrange commercial, property, landlord, blocks of flats and fleet insurance for clients across the UK.
So you can have the personal relationship you'd expect from a local broker without your business needing to be local to me.
Sometimes knowing who you're dealing with simply matters
Insurance will always involve paperwork, insurers, policy wordings and terms and conditions.
But I don't think dealing with your insurance broker needs to feel impersonal.
I want my clients to know who they're speaking to, have a direct number and email address, and know that when something changes or goes wrong, there's an actual person they can contact.
That's the kind of insurance broking I believe in - and exactly why I created Flintwise.
For insurance that's wise, think Flintwise.
